My pet has allergies, can I feed him/her PetGuard food?
Certain proteins and chemicals in foods can cause allergic reactions in pets. Airborne substances such as pollen, dust, or mold and contact with paints, plastics, soaps or even grass can also cause allergic reactions. PetGuard is free of chemical additives and preservatives, and has created a variety of foods with varying sources of protein to accommodate the tastes and sensitivities of our animal companions.

When I switched to PetGuard, my pet got diarrhea. Why?
Diarrhea can occur when pets over-eat. PetGuard is nutrient-dense, and you may find that pets require a smaller amount of PetGuard food than of other pet foods. Abrupt dietary changes may also cause discomfort, so it is important to gradually switch from your pet's present food to PetGuard. Be sure to follow the feeding directions on each product, and within a short time your pets should experience normal bowel movements. If diarrhea-type problems continue, speak with your veterinarian.

My cat has urinary tract problems. Can PetGuard help?
The importance of urinary tract health is highly understated in this country. While PetGuard does not claim to cure an infection or blockage, we do formulate our products to produce an acidic urine (pH). PetGaurd foods also contain the essential amino acids (taurine and dl-methionine) to help in the prevention of urinary problems. In all concerns regarding health matters, your veterinarian is the first and best source for treating any illness.*

ABOUT INGREDIENTS:

Why doesn't the label state that "Human Grade Ingredients" are used in your products?
According to the USDA and FDA, it is illegal to use or promote the use of the verbiage "human grade ingredients" because "human grade" is not a legal term. PetGuard uses ingredients that we ourselves would eat.

The ingredients PetGuard uses are the result of 25 years of working with our suppliers and careful monitoring of the quality of products manufactured to our specifications.

What is meant by the term "by-products"?
Animal by-products include such things as feathers, fur, tendons, hooves and beaks. There are no by-products in any PetGuard product.

Do you use GMO's?
GMO's (genetically modified organisms) are not used in PetGuard products.

What preservatives do you use in your products?
PetGuard dry foods are preserved with mixed tocopherols and vitamins C and E. These natural preservatives serve two functions: they prevent the food from spoiling and they scavenge free radicals, which are known to cause cancer and cell damage.*

What is Ester-C?
Ester-C is calcium ascorbate and is used to deliver Vitamin C. It is metabolized very well in the body and easily absorbed by cells. The strong antioxidant effect prevents cell damage from free radicals that can cause cancer.*

How is the quality of the beef in your products judged?
PetGuard uses Coleman Natural Beef in its beef products. The Coleman name is synonymous with beef raised with NO hormones, NO antibiotics, NO steroids, and NEVER fed animal by-products. The Coleman story is worth reading, and can be found at www.colemannatural.com.

What causes the color and texture changes I notice in your products from time to time?
Because we use only natural ingredients in our formulas, the finished products may vary slightly in color or texture.

What is meant by "organic" and why is it better?
Unlike many foods produced today, organic foods are grown without pesticides or harmful chemical fertilizers. Organic foods do not contain artificial products of any kind. For example, Coleman Beef, which is used exclusively by PetGuard in all its beef dinners, comes from cattle raised without artificial hormones or antibiotics. The chicken used in PetGuard chicken dinners is USDA hormone-free poultry. All PetGuard foods include fresh vegetables and whole grains, complete with fiber and nutrients to offer your pet companion a flavorful, highly digestible meal.

What is the shelf life of PetGuard products?
All PetGuard products, including all PetGuard supplements, have an expiration date printed on the label or the can. Just as with foods that humans consume, products should be used in a timely manner to take advantage of maximum freshness.

We recommend varying your pet's diet occasionally by adding portions of fresh meat and vegetables as a part of a natural approach to nutritional well-being.

Switching to PetGuard

To acclimate your pet to a new food, we suggest mixing our food with the current food--a little each day, over time. Gradually reduce the amount of the current food and increase the PetGuard until your pet is eating the proper ration of PetGuard Premium pet food. Generally this change should take place over 7 to 10 days, unless you are instructed differently by a veterinarian. Abrupt changes in your pet's diet can cause indigestion.

Remember the Water

Be sure your pet always has plenty of fresh drinking water in a clean bowl. An adequate water intake is necessary to maintain your pet's good health and body functions. Supply fresh water daily.
