Flower essences are a specific form of homeopathy that work particularly on the emotions and mental energy of the individual. It is believed that many illnesses are nothing more than an outward manifestation of some mental or emotional imbalance, or “dis-ease”. By gently effecting the energetic vibration of the emotions, or subtle bodies, and balancing them, our physical bodies are allowed to balance as well.
Flower remedies were originally developed by Dr. Edward Bach in the early 1930's. Although he worked in general practice, he was also a dedicated bacteriologist and pathologist and spent much time working on the development of homeopathics and vaccines. This work with homeopathic remedies, coupled with his dissatisfaction for traditional medical modalities, drove him to his work with flower essences. He began to abandon his classical training and use his more innate abilities as a healer. He would identify specific emotional states within himself and then allow himself to be energetically drawn to the various plants and flowers that he felt could help him. Thus, flower essences were born. He continued on in this way, through great personal suffering and sacrifice, until he had identified 38 original remedies. Dr. Bach continued his work with flower essences until his death.
Flowers, as with all living things, are imprinted with a specific vibratory energy. Our bodies, too, are a complex system of electrical vibrations. When this electrical system is flowing smoothly, our physical bodies experience health. If there are blocks in the flow, imbalances will occur and create outward symptoms. Flower essences address the energetic blocks by introducing a balancing vibratory effect, thus returning the emotional, mental, and energetic states to their normal flow. Once this has happened, the physical symptoms of illness that were caused by the blockage can, over time, dissipate. The rate of healing can vary with each individual and condition. As with all homeopathic remedies, it is not uncommon to experience what is known as The Healing Crisis while using flower essences. This occurs when the initial condition is treated and removed only to reveal another deeper issue underneath. Sometimes the initial condition can seem to even worsen as the negative emotions are exposed in order to be released and healed. Conversely, the effect of the flower essence can be so subtle that the individual may not realize until weeks later that the condition no longer exists. With homeopathic flower essences, just like any energetic healing tool, the receptiveness of the patient to allow the free flow of energy will also have a direct effect on the success rate of the remedy. |

Developed in the 18th century by a German physician, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, homeopathy is a natural pharmaceutical science that uses very small, diluted doses from plants, minerals and animals to activate the body's own healing process, which allows the body to heal naturally. The first law of homeopathy is that like cures like, or the "Law of Similars". Dr. Hahnemann observed that the substance Cinchona (Peruvian bark), containing quinine, an accepted cure for malaria, administered in high dosages to a healthy individual, provoked the same intermittent fever as that of malaria patients. He also observed that this same remedy, taken in infinitesimal dosages, cured this symptom in the individual afflicted with this same type of fever. He demonstrated this principle on himself and his colleagues, and repeated experiments with other substances. The results were always very conclusive. Thus, homeopathy also functions under the premise that the more a substance is diluted, the greater its potency is, or "The law of the Infinitesimal Dose". Dr. Hahnemann discovered this after much experimentation with greater and greater dilutions of substances in order to avoid toxicity. Some of the most potent homeopathics have been diluted to the point where literally no molecular trace of the original substance exists. In fact, a homeopathic remedy of 24X or more will have no chemical trace of the original substance remaining. It is believed that their therapeutic abilities lie in the field of energy medicine. Studies using nuclear magnetic resonance imaging have demonstrated distinctive readings of subatomic activity in 23 different homeopathic remedies, where this was not displayed in placebos.1
In homeopathy, the idea is to cure the initial symptom, then subsequently heal the underlying older symptoms one at a time, thus restoring full health layer by layer. This is known as Hering's Law of Cures, and is considered the second law of homeopathy. Constantine Hering, M.D. (1800-1880), who is considered "the father of American homeopathy" did extensive studies in the use of homeopathy, and made the following important observations:
• The human body seeks to externalize disease--to dislodge it from more serious internal levels to more superficial external levels. Thus, someone with asthma may develop an external skin rash as part of the curative process.
• Healing progresses from the top of the body to the bottom. Thus, someone with arthritis in many joints will generally notice relief in the upper part of the body before the lower part.
• Healing proceeds in the reverse order of the symptoms. Thus, the most recent symptoms will generally be the first to be healed, and in the process of cure a person may re-experience previous symptoms.
Often times in this layered healing process, patients may find a reappearance of the initial symptom that had previously been treated. This is known as The Healing Crisis. The example above can be used to illustrate this more clearly. Assume that the initial treatment was for the rash (that was actually caused by the asthma). Once the symptoms of the rash are addressed, the next step would be to move to the deeper issue of the asthma. During the treatment of the asthma it would not be uncommon to see a temporary reemergence of the rash. This could make it appear that the patient is getting worse, when it may just be a brief reappearance of the outer layer symptom. Once the deeper layer of the asthma is healed, the outer layer symptom will no longer have fertile ground to survive.
Homeopathics can take several forms, such as combination homeopathics, homeopathic antigens, homeopathic flower essences, homeopathic endocrine formulas, homeopathic acupuncture meridians and gemmotherapy "drainers", just to name a few. All of these different types of homeopathic remedies may be used to evoke the desired healing results.
