Where are DEVA products manufactured? All DEVA products are manufactured in the U.S.A. I thought softgels were made with animal derived gelatin, yet DEVA claims their softgels are animal free. How? It is true that animal derived gelatin was the only material to make softgels in the nutraceutical industry until very recently. Now new technology allows softgels to be made from seaweed and starch based ingredients. DEVA softgels do not contain any animal ingredients of any kind. They are 100% vegan. Is the DHA Oil used in DEVA products extracted by the use of hexane? No. DHA used in these products is extracted from algae without using hexane, hence it is free of hexane. The recent batch of DEVA Omega-3 DHA oil capsules I purchased are cloudy and harder. Is there something wrong with them? Cloudy / textured finish of the capsules is due to the enteric coating for those who fear the fishy smell of the oil inside the capsules might repeat on their breath. A special modified cellulose coating is applied to the regular vegetable capsules. This enteric coating gives the caps a cloudy look and harder feel but can prevent the reflux some experience with other Omega-3 oil formulas. What exactly does enteric coated mean? The special enteric-coated capsules used to deliver this new higher quality Omega 3 DHA Oil are designed to inhibit the gastric juices from dissolving the capsule prior to clearing the stomach. This is a welcomed feature that allows those with repeat problems to enjoy the benefits of Omega 3 DHA Oil supplementation without the undesirable experience of having the fishy oil taste creep up their throat.
The digestive enzymes and higher pH in the small intestine will cause the enteric-coated Vcaps to disintegrate, releasing the precious Omega 3 DHA oil for emulsification and digestion. DEVA Omega 3 DHA was designed in response to the increasing demand by valued customers for the highest quality DHA product with value pricing.
What is the smell that comes out when I open the Omega-3 DHA bottle? Omega-3 DHA oil is derived from golden marine algae that is grown under sanitary manufacturing conditions. It is clean, safe and free of contaminants. It does however have a slightly fishy odor that is characteristic of algae. That is the odor you smell when you open the bottle, it is normal and nothing to worry about. I also smell citrus, why? Trace amount of natural orange oil is included in the desiccant bag to mask the fishy odor of the DHA oil. There is no citrus in the capsules or the oil. Do I need to refrigerate the Omega-3 products after opening? Refrigeration after opening is highly recommended; however, it is not required. The bottles must be kept in a cool and dark place. Do DEVA glucosamine products contain any allergens? The Glucosamine HCl used in DEVA products does not contain any of the following known allergens as defined by the FDA: Milk, Eggs, Legumes,Tree Nuts, Wheat, Fish, Mollusks, Crustaceans, Shellfish. It is non-animal derived and 100% vegan. Is the "sulfonyl" in MSM chemically related at all to sulfonamide antibiotics? No. They are very different things. DEVA products do not contain sulfonamide antibiotics (aka sulfa drugs). It is important to make a distinction between sulfa drugs and other sulfur-containing products and additives, such as sulfates and sulfites, which are chemically unrelated to the sulfonamide group, and do not cause the same hypersensitivity reactions seen in the sulfonamides. Is DEVA Glucosamine HCL free of sulfites? Usually sulfites are added to fermentations to stop the fermentation at a certain point, as is common in wine making. DEVA has been asked this before, and it is appropriate to say they don't add sulfites, as some wine makers do, to stop fermentation. They have no reason to believe they are there, but do not test for them. Therefore it cannot be said for sure that it is free of sulfites. It is also important to note that sulfites and sulfates are very different chemicals and should not be confused. Why does the oil inside the capsule appear cloudy? It is also very thick and does not flow, why? A natural, plant based thickener (Candelilla Wax) is added to the organic flax oil to prevent capsule leakage and to improve the stability of the oil. This addition of candelilla wax creates a cloudy appearance and higher viscosity, which is normal and not a defect. |
