Velerian contains constituents called valepotriates, isovaltrates, and isovaleric acids known collectively as Valerenic Acids. Most of the clinical data suggests various interactions with benzodiazepam or GABA receptors such as valtrate and dihydrovaltrate. There have been numerous human clinical trials conducted on Valerian and many have shown positive results.*

It should be noted that Valerian in large doses (over 1 gram of Extract) acts differently in some people, in fact occasionally has the opposite of the desired effect. When used in a formula, however, particularly with Hops, rarely do herbalists see its desired actions fail.*

California Poppy encourages trophorestoration of the nervous system and supports restful and revitalizing sleep. Although there is not an overwhelming amount of in vivo research on California poppy, it has a strong reputation with traditional Herbalists for its calming and supportive actions for the entire nervous system.*

Skullcap also encourages trophorestoration of the nervous system, as well as supporting adaption to stress. This plant is a nervine and contains numerous flavanoids and flavones including the flavanoid glycoside Scutellarin, essential oils, tannins, and iridoids. Scutellarin acts like quercitin in that it decreases mast cell activity.*

Kava Kava promotes muscle and nerve relaxation, and encourages a sense of emotional wellbeing. The exact mechanism of its action on the nervous system is unknown; however, one recent study found that Kava pyrones mediate effects on GABA-A receptors particularly in the hippocampus and amygdala. It is an approved medicine in many European countries for the treatment of Generalized Anxiety Disorder.*

Passionflower Vine supports sleep, restfulness, and trophorestoration. The vine and leaves contain many alkaloids such as harmaline, harmine, harman, and harmalol. The plant also contains many bioflavonoids including quercitin, rutin, apigenin, kaempferol, vitexin, and orientin. There have been scarce human clinical trials on this plant, yet it remains a steadfast choice of traditional herbalists for its ability to gently restore debilitated nerve centers by promoting nutrition uptake at the cellular level.*

Chamomile supports relaxation and helps ease nervousness brought on by overwork and fatigue. It is loaded with volatile oils, including proazulenes, bisabolol, farnesine, pinene, anthemal, spiroether, and angelic acid. It also contains sesquiterpine lactones, flavonoids (apigenin, quercitin, patuletin, and luteolin), cyanogenic glycosides, bitter glycosides, coumarins, valerianic acids, tannins and more.*
