Tocotrienols are of the vitamin E family (tocopherols), and complement the properties of tocopherols.*  Together they are thought of as the most important antioxidants in fats, oil, and cell membranes.*  Tocotrienols are important regulators of blood lipids, being involved in the regulation of total cholesterol as well as LDL cholesterol.*  The molecular structure of tocotrienols is such that it inhibits the liver enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme that is critical to the rate at which cholesterol is synthesized.*  It has been shown that tocotrienols from rice bran oil are more potent than those from palm kernel oil and that rice bran oil tocotrienols inhibit HMG-CoA reductase activity significantly.*
