Primrose Oil, also known as Evening Primrose Oil, has been used for many years as a rich source of the Omega 6 essential fatty acid Gamma Linoleic Acid (GLA).  Although GLA can usually be made from Linoleic Acid within the body, certain conditions block the function of the Delta-6-Desaturase enzyme that converts essential fatty acids into their derivatives.  Saturated fats, cholesterol, trans-fatty acids, viral infections and zinc deficiency inhibit the function of D-6-D enzyme and it becomes less efficient with age.*
