PMS Formula with Indolplex contains chaste tree berry extract to support healthy hormone balance; calcium, magnesium and vitamin D to help provide relief of PMS symptoms; and DIM to help support healthy estrogen metabolism. When estrogen levels are high (usually between the ages of 15 and 40), it’s important to get your nutritional framework in order, set up a strong base for your bones, and balance your hormones naturally.*

Benefits
•Supports hormone balance*
•Promotes healthy estrogen metabolism*
•Helps relieve PMS symptoms, including mood and emotional stability*

Key Features
•Contains a unique blend of ingredients studied for their impact on PMS*

Introduction
Hormones are substances secreted by specialized cells that affectthe metabolism or behavior of other cells possessing receptors for the hormone. Hormones are conveyed throughout the body by the blood. They exert physiological control over other cells in the body.

Estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone are called sex hormones because they strongly affect the reproductive system. However, they also have many other functions in the body. For example, estrogen helps to maintain healthy bones and skin in both women and men. Likewise, testosterone is present in both men and women and works to support healthy bones and muscles as well as lift energy, improve mood, and increase libido.*

The Menstrual Cycle And Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)
During the normal reproductive years, females experience monthly changes in the secretion of hormones. This cyclic pattern is called the menstrual cycle. This cycle averages 28 days; however, it may be as short as 20 days or as long as 45 days. These variations are considered normal. Within each cycle there is an increase and then decrease of both follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). These gonadotropic hormones are secreted by the anterior pituitary gland. In response to these hormones, the ovaries release estrogen and progesterone hormones. These hormones are released at drastically differing rates during different parts of the cycle.

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a combination of physical and emotional disturbances that occur after a woman ovulates and ends with menstruation. The most common symptoms include occasional irritability, emotional tension, anxiety, mood changes, breast tenderness, and water retention. PMS is estimated to affect between 20-50 percent of menstruating women. In most cases, symptoms are mild to moderate. However, it is estimated that 10 percent of women with PMS have more severe symptoms.*

How Does It Work?
The ingredients in PMS Formula with Indoplex help relieve symptoms of PMS by supporting healthy estrogen metabolism, promoting healthy estradiol (an estrogen) fluctuations, encouraging healthy pregnenolone (progesterone precursor) metabolism, promoting breast health, enhancing calcium, vitamin D, and magnesium levels, and supporting increased progesterone production through prolactin modulation. PMS Formula with Indoplex can contribute to breast and uterine health, as well as menstrual comfort.*

Indolplex
Diindolylmethane (DIM) is a dietary indole naturally present in cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli and cauliflower. Research shows that DIM can shift the balance of circulating estradiol and estrone to safer metabolites. By supporting healthy estrogen metabolism, DIM is vital to hormonal health and PMS symptom relief.*

DIM increases the production of 2-hydroxy estrogen metabolites. DIM is the most potent inducer of 2-hydroxylase, the enzyme responsible for this beneficial shift in estrogen metabolism. DIM induces 2-hydroxyestrone (2OH1) and 2-hydroxyestradiol (2-OH2) in diverse tissues, leading to net inhibition of excessive estrogen stimulation. Once present in the circulation, 2-OH1 and 2-OH2 are metabolized by catechol-O-methyl transferase (COMT), resulting in 2-methoxyestrone and 2-methoxyestradiol. These critical metabolites have been shown to promote healthy cell development in animals and humans.*

The estrogen-balancing effects of DIM were examined in a clinical study. Urinary estrogen metabolites were examined at baseline and after 30 days of supplementation with DIM or placebo. The research confirmed that DIM shifted the balance of estrogen metabolites from the 16-hydroxy pathway to the 2-hydroxy pathway.*

DIM is extremely insoluble in both water and lipids, and poorly absorbed without a biodelivery vehicle. Indolplex provides an effective delivery system that has undergone testing in animal and clinical settings. Bioavailability testing in animals established at least a tenfold advantage of Indolplex over unprocessedDIM.*

Calcium
Calcium, the most abundant mineral in the human body, plays a critical role in relieving symptoms of PMS. Studies have shown that calcium metabolism, intestinal calcium absorption, and parathyroid secretion are regulated by estrogen and influenced by fluctuations throughout the menstrual cycle. Clinical trials in women with PMS have found that calcium supplementation effectively alleviates mood and somatic symptoms.*

Vitamin D
Research trials show that women experiencing PMS symptoms in the second phase of their cycle require additional calcium and vitamin D support. Supplementation can help relieve symptoms of PMS.*

Iodine
Iodine is needed for the synthesis of thyroid hormones, which help to maintain healthy metabolic rates. Clinical studies have demonstrated that iodine is essential for breast health; iodine is believed to render intralobular duct cells (part of the endocrine system) less sensitive to circulating estrogens.*

Magnesium
Magnesium is an essential mineral that plays an important synergistic role, along with calcium and vitamin D, in relieving the symptoms of PMS. In several research trials, data indicate that magnesium supplementation could be effective in relieving premenstrual symptoms related to mood changes and water balance, especially if given in conjunction with calcium supplementation.*

Chaste Tree
In clinical study, 93 percent of participants reported a decrease in the number of symptoms, including occasional anxiety, food cravings, mood swings, and water balance, or even total cessation of these PMS complaints. Chaste tree berry extract has an approved monograph in The Complete German Commission E Monographs for premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and menopausal complaints.*
