There are THREE important qualifications that define a superior fish oil concentrate:

1. Raw material selection. Metagenics' Norwegian manufacturing partner only uses fresh, clean, deep water fish that are known to be high in important omega-3 EFAs.
2. The manufacturing process. Our ultra-refined omega-3 oils under-go a proprietary tefinement process that includes the following production steps:
   • De-acidification to remove phospholipids, color bodies and other soluble and insoluble impurities from fish oil.
   • Bleaching (not with actual bleach, but clay and/or active carbon and heat) to reduce color pigments, heavy metals, oxidative products and other environmental pollutants.
   • Deodorization to remove volatile materials that affect flavor, taste and stability of the oil. This process also dramatically removes PCBs and dioxins
   • Molecular distillation concentrates and purifies the oil
   • Winterization cools the oil and then filters particles that form at cold temperatures.
3. Quality control & assurance. Every batch of oil is thoroughly tested at every step, from raw material to packaging.

You can also sense the difference of a quality EFA formula. Ultra-refined fish oils should have virtually no fish taste or smell, and should posess a light, clear color (unless enterically coated).
