Met-A-Syn X-Pack, provided by Douglas Laboratories, supplies a synergistic combination of vitamins, minerals, phytosterols, coenzyme Q10 and other phytonutrients designed to support healthy metabolic processes, especially as they relate to supporting cardiovascular health and maintaining normal glucose levels.*
FUNCTIONS
As people practice unhealthy eating and exercise habits, it can become progressively more difficult for the body to maintain normal metabolic processes. When the body is exposed continuously to an unbalanced diet and exercise regime, the body's weight, cholesterol, blood pressure and blood glucose can all fall outside of healthy ranges. A combination of these and other factors are known as metabolic syndrome and require dietary and lifestyle changes to ensure proper functioning of the body's major systems, including the cardiovascular, endocrine and neurological systems.*

Studies show that a high percentage of adults in North America and other developed areas eat less than the minimum daily allowance of 10 or more essential nutrients. Coenzyme Q10 (or ubiquinone) is an important rate-limiting nutrient that is a cofactor in the mitochondrial electron transport chain, the biochemical pathway in cellular respiration from which adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and metabolic energy is derived. Since nearly all cellular activities are dependent upon energy, coenzyme Q10 is essential for the health of all human tissues and organs. Numerous studies indicate that coenzyme Q10 also plays an important role in the maintenance of the entire cardiovascular system. Supplementation with coenzyme Q10 in patients has shown to be useful for the maintenance of healthy blood pressure. Coenzyme Q10 is also important for the maintenance of blood vessels and heart muscle function.*
Nature's Diet Caps + Herbs:
This product delivers 500 mg of (-) hydroxycitric acid from 1,000 mg of a high-quality, standardized Garcinia cambogia extract. This natural extract comes from a tropical fruit grown in several Asian rain forest areas. Research shows that (-) hydroxycitric acid helps maintain a healthy balance of hepatic lipogenesis and gluconeogenesis, which prevents excessive conversion of glucose from dietary carbohydrate into body fat. Research also indicates that (-) hydroxycitric acid plays an important role in the regulation of normal appetite. Unlike many commonly used diet ingredients, (-) hydroxycitric acid is not a central nervous stimulant. Chromium is also provided at a significant level. This essential trace mineral potentiates insulin action and thus influences carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolism.*
Cardio-Edge:
Cardio-Edge supplies Sytrinol (a patented combination of polymethoxylated flavones from citrus fruit and tocotrienols from palm), plant sterols, and standardized pomegranate extract to help support cardiovascular health and cholesterol metabolism. Within the peel of certain fruits, compounds belonging to a class of flavonoids called polymethoxylated flavones can be found. These compounds are similar in structure to flavones, but contain additional methyl groups on their ring structure, giving them the name polymethoxylated flavones – also known as PMFs. The primary PMFs present in Sytrinol are nobiletin and tangeretin. Science on PMFs dates back to the 1960s and covers both their antioxidant as well as their anti-inflammatory actions. Specifically, with respect to cholesterol metabolism, PMFs have been shown to decrease apolipoprotein B, the structural protein needed for the synthesis of LDL-cholesterol. Nobiletin and tangeretin have also been shown to decrease diacylglycerol acetyl transferase,an enzyme in the liver involved in the synthesis of triglycerides. In addition to PMFs, Sytrinol contains tocotrienols derived from palm. Tocotrienols, a group of compounds belonging to the vitamin E family, have also been studied over the years for their ability to act as antioxidants and to help support cardiovascular health. Plant sterols are naturally occurring plant compounds that have structures similar to, yet slightly different from cholesterol. Typical plant sterols are compounds such as β-sitosterol, campesterol, and stigmasterol and can be found in vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, grains and certain oils. Research has shown that these compounds compete with the absorption of dietary cholesterol, as well as inhibit the reabsorption of endogenous cholesterol in the gastrointestinal tract. Pomegranate extract is also included in Cardio-Edge for its role in supporting antioxidant and cardiovascular function.*

Gymnema sylvestre is an Ayurvedic botanical that may assist the normal regeneration and repair of healthy pancreatic beta cells. Gymnema is also suspected of reducing intestinal glucose absorption. Fenugreek, a popular spice in Asia and Europe, contains a high percentage of mucilage, a soluble dietary fiber. Soluble dietary fiber plays important roles in the digestive system; it helps inhibit the absorption of sugars and fats and causes blood sugar levels to rise at a slower rate. Human studies have indicated that fenugreek plays supportive roles in blood sugar and cholesterol metabolism. Recently, cinnamon, a well-known spice and flavoring, has been gaining attention for its roles that it plays in supporting the body's metabolism of glucose. In one study, patients given cinnamon showed significant decreases in fasting glucose, triglycerides and cholesterol. Another study has indicated that cinnamon may be a strong potentiator of insulin.*
