Manganese Chelate tablets, provided by Douglas Laboratories, supply manganese from bioavailable manganese amino acid chelate. Each tablet contains 16.7 mg elemental manganese.

FUNCTIONS
Manganese is a mineral concentrated in the liver, bone, pituitary gland, kidney, pancreas and intestines. It is an activator for and part of many enzyme systems, is important in carbohydrate and fat metabolism, is necessary for normal skeletal growth, and it is valuable for the assimilation and utilization of thiamine, biotin, and ascorbic acid.* Manganese is important to the production of milk, the formation of urea, and the maintenance of sex hormone production.*

Manganese activates several metalloenzymes, including hydrolases, kinases, decarboxylases and transferases. Manganese is also the essential cofactor of the mitochondrial form of the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD). SOD is a key antioxidant enzyme that destroys harmful superoxide anions that are generated during normal energy metabolism or come from environmental pollution.* Mitochondrial SOD activity is dependent on sufficient dietary intake of manganese.*
