Lipo-Forte tablets from Douglas Laboratories contain several lipotropic factors, such as choline, methionine, inositol, and betaine, which help modulate fat metabolism and decrease its deposition in the liver.*
FUNCTIONS The lipotropic ingredients of Lipo-Forte promote the flow of fat and bile from the liver, and consequently act to improve liver function and metabolism. Lipotropic agents have been used to promote normal liver health.*
Choline, betaine, methionine, vitamin B-6, and vitamin B-12 are involved in methyl group metabolism, which is essential for normal liver function. Choline, as an integral component of lecithin (phosphatidylcholine), is used for synthesis and maintenance of normal cell membranes. Dietary deficiency of choline results in steep increases in serum enzyme markers of liver injury. Animals deficient in choline and inositol have an excess liver accumulation of fat. Inositol and choline supplementation for animals prone to fatty livers prevents this liver dysfunction.*
It is important to realize that bile flow is a primary route for the elimination of toxins that have been metabolized by the liver. Therefore, it is vital that a healthy flow of bile from the gall bladder be maintained. Dietary supplementation with lipotropic formulas may help maintain that healthy bile flow. Animals deficient in dietary choline have an increased incidence of liver cancer and are more susceptible to carcinogenic toxins.*
Gallstones, which result from inhibition of bile excretion, may also rely upon lipotropic formulas, as they stimulate bile flow. The increased bile flow may not only help support the body’s defense against gall stones, but may also enhance detoxification reactions in the liver.*
Lipo-Forte may be a useful dietary supplement for individuals who wish to maintain and optimize healthy liver function and associated fat metabolism.*
