Is JŎCALAT raw?
JŎCALAT is 90% raw. Raw means uncooked food in its real, most natural form. In 90% of JŎCALAT, we use ingredients dehydrated below 118 degrees, which we consider to be raw. In addition, our raw ingredients do not exceed 118 degrees during production. The 10% of JŎCALAT that is not raw includes roasted cocoa and organic flavors such as peppermint, orange and vanilla.

Cocoa mass is ground cocoa beans.
What is the symbol above the "O" in JŎCALAT?
A breve (Latin brevis "short, brief") is an accent mark shaped like a little round cup, designed to indicate a short vowel.
Does JŎCALAT use raw cocoa?
JŎCALAT does not use raw cocoa at this time. Because of JŎCALAT's unique flavor profile, as well as the challenge of finding a quality and consistent supply, we have chosen to use cocoa from roasted cocoa beans. We feel the health benefits, including high antioxidant content, far outweigh the fact that the cocoa has been heated.
What is the shelf life of JŎCALAT?

How can a mostly raw product have such a long shelf life?
We use a multi-layer package that keeps out UV light and oxygen, which, in turn, maintains freshness without the use of preservatives.
Will JŎCALAT freeze or melt?
No. JŎCALAT will become softer in warm temperatures and firmer in cold temperatures, but, in either case, it will remain chewy and enjoyable.
Does JŎCALAT contain peanuts?
No. We do not use peanuts in any of our products. JŎCALAT is also produced in a peanut-free facility. However, we cannot guarantee that our ingredients have not come in contact with peanuts prior to reaching our manufacturing facility.
How much caffeine is in JŎCALAT?
Caffeine occurs naturally in chocolate. JŎCALAT ranges between 4.8 and 32 milligrams of caffeine per bar. By comparison, a cup of decaf coffee has 2 to 4 milligrams of caffeine, a cup of decaf tea 2 to 9 milligrams. A regular 6 ounce cup of coffee has 65 to 150 milligrams, a regular cup of tea 20 to 90 milligrams.

What exactly are the organic flavors listed in the ingredients?
Some JŎCALAT bars contain an infusion of delicious flavor such as peppermint, vanilla and orange. Each is organic, plant-based, and extracted for use by natural means.
Does JŎCALAT have added vitamins, minerals or supplements?
No. We believe the best way to obtain nutrients is from whole food - the way nature created it. All vitamins and minerals in JŎCALAT are derived exclusively from the real food used to make our bars.
Why is JŎCALAT so high in fiber?
The combination of the whole fruit and nuts and cocoa used to make JŎCALAT is an excellent source of fiber.
What about the protein in JŎCALAT?
Each bar contains approximately 5 grams of protein. The only way to provide more protein in a bar is to fortify it with soy, rice, or whey protein (from dairy), which requires processing.
What about the fat in JŎCALAT?
Plant-based fats are healthier than animal fats. The fat in JŎCALAT comes primarily from nuts and cocoa - all plant-based fats containing Omega 6 essential fatty acids, which help protect the heart.*
What about the carbohydrates in JŎCALAT?
The carbohydrates in JŎCALAT are good carbohydrates, derived from fruit and, ultimately, necessary for the body to function. They also contain fiber and plant phytonutrients that help the immune system. It's the processed and refined carbohydrates you should avoid - the kind found in white flour, white rice, and added sugars such as corn syrup, fructose, sucrose and grape juice.

 It started out as just a hike, no different than countless others I've taken into the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Little did I know I was about to come up with a mountain of an idea: Combine wholesome ingredients such as fruits and nuts to create a food product that's tasty, healthy and convenient.
In that instant, in May 2000, LÄRABAR was born. After scouring the aisles of grocery stores and noting popular flavors of ice cream and cookies, I delved into my own product development. Natural foods, I believed, should be fun and enjoyable as well as good for you. With friends and family serving as focus groups, I tinkered with recipes until a consensus on yummi-ness was reached.
The next step was to launch a company to market what would initially be five delicious LÄRABAR flavors: Cherry Pie, Apple Pie, Cashew Cookie, Banana Cookie, and Chocolate Coconut Chew. I also assembled a sophisticated manufacturing arm...what amounted to be a Cuisinart and a rolling pin. The first batch of bars I produced for retail had to be sealed by hand - all 500 of them!
Thank goodness we have machines for that job today. After all, we're producing millions of LÄRABARS every year. They are a healthy indulgence you can feel good about eating.
And "feeling good" is what it's all about. Believe itor not, I used to be a junk food junkie - until I discovered how natural foods enlivened my mind, body and spirit. A passion for healthy living soon followed, and continues to be a driving force behind everything I do professionally and personally. Are the peanuts in LÄRABAR Peanut Butter Cookie roasted? What percentage of this flavor is raw?
Yes, we use roasted peanuts in Peanut Butter Cookie because we feel the taste is more appealing. For people who follow a strict raw food diet, the Peanut Butter flavor is 60% raw which is also noted on our packaging.
What is extra virgin coconut oil?
Extra virgin coconut oil is a tropical oil that is extracted using a cold pressed method from fresh coconuts.
What is the lemon juice concentrate and lemon flavor used in the LÄRABAR Lemon Bar?
The lemon juice concentrate we use is made from pure lemon juice and lemon pulp, which is flash pasteurized to ensure that it is safe to consume. The lemon flavor we use is made from a cold press process during which the fruit skin yields pure essential oil.
Why is LÄRABAR not organic?
To produce the best product at an everyday value price, LÄRABAR is made with all natural ingredients. We'll consider using organic ingredients at the point that suppliers can meet both our quality and volume standards consistently, which, to date, has not been possible.
