Manitoba Harvest Mission Statement
At Manitoba Harvest, the goal is to educate the public about healthy lifestyle choices, to offer staple health food products, and to encourage & support sustainable farming in North America.
Commitment To Quality From Seed To Shelf

To ensure quality, Manitoba Harvest grows, processes and packages all of their own products. Products are made fresh daily. Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods & Oils are manufactured with the utmost care using only the finest hemp seeds. Manitoba Harvest is a farmer owned company.

Growing

Manitoba Harvest contracts hemp seed production in Manitoba, Canada, a world recognized producer of top quality grains. They pay fair market price to our farmers; many are also shareholders in the company. This guarantees only the highest quality hemp seed is produced. All Manitoba Harvest hemp seeds are original source and contain No Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). Their hemp seed is grown sustainably and is herbicide and pesticide free. They also grow USDA certified organic hemp seed for their certified organic products. The growing cycle of the hemp plant is 100-110 days.

Harvesting

In early October, at around 16 weeks old, the hemp plants are ready for harvest. The flowers are ripe and full of seeds. By now, most of the plant leaf matter has fallen to the ground where it will compost and give nutrients back to the soil for future years. The hemp seed is harvested with a combine tractor. At the farm, the harvested hemp seed is cleaned to remove any stocks, leaves, and immature seeds. The cleaned hemp seed is then stored in grain bins where it keeps fresh until it is shipped to the Manitoba Harvest facility.

The Facility

Manitoba Harvest owns and operates a 6000 square ft. state of the art, kosher certified, USDA organic certified facility. This facility is licensed by Health Canada and the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA). Manitoba Harvest adheres to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), with which their employees are trained. They are proud to be a hemp food only processor. No other products are processed in their plant.

The Production Process:

Hemp Seed Oil
Hemp Seeds are freshly cold pressed to ensure that valuable enzymes are not destroyed and nutrients such as chlorophyll and vitamin E remain intact. Manitoba Harvest hemp seed oil is processed and packaged in an atmosphere free of light and oxygen to prevent rancidity.

Shelled Hemp Seed (also known as hemp hearts)
Hemp Seeds are cracked to expose the inner kernel. The seeds are then run through a series of screening machines that separate the shell from the nutritious inner kernel.

Hemp Seed Butter
Shelled Hemp Seed is ground in small batches at a low temperature to produce a healthy, delicious seed butter.

Hemp Protein Powder
After the hemp seeds are cold pressed to remove the oil, the left over protein rich hemp meal is cold milled. The milled meal is then screened to extract the Hemp Protein Powder.

Hemp Protein Powder with Fiber
After the hemp seeds are cold pressed to remove the oil, the left over protein rich hemp meal is cold milled. The nutritious fiber of the hemp seed is not removed.

Hemp Bliss - Organic Hempmilk
Hemp Seeds are blended with filtered water then cold filtered to create a rich and creamy milk. The milk is then sweetened with organic evaporated cane juice and flavored with organic ingredients.

Packaging
All Manitoba Harvest products are packaged in light-impermeable material and flushed with an inert gas to prevent oxidation. No additives or preservatives are used.

Fresh On Order
All Manitoba Harvest products are produced fresh on demand. When their distributors, retailers, or customers place an order they produce product fresh that day. All Manitoba Harvest products are clearly stamped with a Packaged On and Best Before date. These dates tell you when the product was packaged and how long it will be fresh.

Manitoba Harvest FAQ

What are the differences between hemp and marijuana?
There are many. The most important is that Hemp contains a fraction of the psychoactive compound Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) that Marijuana does. This is why hemp is legal and marijuana is not. The plants are considered ‘distant’ cousins.

Will I get “high” eating Manitoba Harvest products?
No, eating our products will not get you “high”. Manitoba Harvest hemp foods & oils are made with a variety of hemp seed that has undetectable amounts of THC. These special hemp seeds are further cleaned and processed to ensure that all Manitoba Harvest products have 0.00% THC.

Will I fail a urinalysis test if I eat Manitoba Harvest products?
No. As stated above, Manitoba Harvest hemp foods & oils have 0.00% THC so eating them will not cause a false positive on a urinalysis test. If a customer could eat an entire 12oz bottle of MANITOBA HARVEST Hemp Seed Oil and an entire 8oz. bag of Manitoba Harvest Shelled Hemp Seed in one sitting, he would still pass the urinalysis test.

Are all Manitoba Harvest products certified organic?
Not all Manitoba Harvest products are certified organic. All Manitoba Harvest hemp seed is grown sustainably without the use of herbicides or pesticides. No chemicals are sprayed on the crop. We also grow USDA certified organic hemp seed for our certified organic products.

Is your hemp genetically modified to bring down the THC?
No. The very low THC variety hemp seeds that we use has been selectively bred, not genetically modified. All Manitoba Harvest hemp seeds are original source and contain no Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs).

What are Manitoba Harvest hemp foods & oils good for?
Manitoba Harvest hemp foods & oils have many beneficial properties and biomolecules that promote health and wellness. Hemp Seed Oil has one of the highest concentrations of polyunsaturated fats and an ideal balance of the omega-6 and omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids. Hemp contains 54.4% linoleic acid(Omega-6), 18.3% linolenic acid(Omega-3), 3-4% gamma-linolenic acid(GLA) and 1-2% stearidonic acid; and as such is one of only 4 oils to do so and is the most economical one of these oils. Hemp's ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 fatty acids is about 3.75:1 which mirrors the primitive diet man evolved on for 2.5 million years. This ratio of fatty acids has been shown to prevent and even reverse Alzheimers disease in animal models and humans (Yehuda et al, Int J Neurosci, vol 3, 141-9, 1996). Polyunsaturated fats have been shown to be beneficial for the prevention of heart disease, especially omega 3 fatty acids.

Hemp contains phytosterols (B-sitosterol, stigmasterol, campestrol) in high concentration (one of the highest) which are known to reduce cholesterol. In fact, the US FDA allows the claim that plant sterol and stanol esters reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering cholesterol levels. Hemp contains chlorophyll which is anti-carcinogenic. The phytosterols have been shown to be anticarcinogenic as well (Phytosterols as Anticancer Dietary Components, Awad and Fink, Recent Advances in Nutritional Sciences, 2000, pp 2127-2129). Hemp is a source of complete protein offering 17 different amino acids including all of the essential ones. This protein is relatively high in cysteine and methionine which are two sulfur bearing amino acids that are usually lacking in vegetable proteins. For more information please read our brochure or nutrition articles.
