Chromium Picolinate X-Tra Tests on athletes in training have shown chromium picolinate to increase lean body mass and decrease body fat. As an active ingredient in GTF (glucose tolerance factor), it enhances the effects of insulin to insure its efficient use. In addition to regulating blood sugar, insulin facilitates the entrance of other carbohydrates and amino acids through cell membranes and influences blood levels of other hormones. Insulin promotes development of skeletal muscle in at least three ways: 1) Promotes intracellular uptake of free amino acids from the blood, 2) Enhances the rate of protein synthesis, 3) Decreases the rate of protein degradation.*
Gamma Oryzanol, an extract from rice bran oil, has both hormone-like and vitamin-like effects as well as stimulative effects on the genital glands. Tests using athletes in training have produced: 1) Increase in lean body mass, 2) Decrease in body fat, 3) Increased excretion of cholesterol. It also has anti-oxidant properties similar to vitamin E.*
The trace element boron is beneficial for muscle building as well as for its positive effect on the recalcification of bone. Supplemental boron given to post-menopausal women significantly increased plasma levels of both estrogen and testosterone.*
