Chromium Nicotinate Plus Chromium plays a role in the metabolism of glucose, and is necessary for energy production. Organic trivalent chromium, an active ingredient in GTF (glucose tolerance factor), has been found to enhance the effects of insulin and to insure its efficient use. Although the chemical structure of GTF has not been thoroughly characterized, the complex components have been verified to include chromium, niacin and a glutathione-like amino acid matrix.*
Chromium Nicotinate Complex also contains the transient element in the trivalent oxidation state. Trivalent compounds are capable of binding or conjugating directly to amino acids. This form is necessary for immunogenic activity and provides added compound stability. Sulfur containing amino acids also function as antioxidants to promote a reduced chromium state.*
Chromium and niacin seem to work synergistically to lower serum cholesterol. Some scientists believe that the cholesterol lowering effect attributed to niacin may actually be due to its enhancement of the cholesterol lowering ability of chromium. When combined, their cholesterol lowering effect far surpasses the use of either supplement alone.*
