Chloroplex Chlorophyllin is a semi-synthetic sodium/copper derivative of chlorophyll. In contrast to chlorophyll, chlorophyllin is water-soluble. Chlorophyllin, like chlorophyll, has deodorizing activity. It is used as an aid to reduce odor from a colostomy or ileostomy and also as an aid to reduce fecal odor due to incontinence. A topical ointment of chlorophyllin is used to reduce malodors in wounds and surface ulcers. As a result of its intestinal moderating effects, it has a deodorant-like effect ... often reducing body odor, bad breath from a G.I. origin and fecal/urinary odor from incontinence.*

Chloroplex is designed for use as a source of vitamin K (the fat-soluble portion of chlorophyll) and as a detoxifying agent.*
Chlorophyll's fat-soluble component has a local anti-inflammatory effect on the intestinal mucosa and is an antagonist of guanidine, a substance which can cause constriction of the intrinsic arteries of the heart itself. (Guanidine is a tissue poison which can be secreted by fatigued heart muscle). The pectin component is present so that oral administration, as has been shown in clinical and animal studies, will result in a lowering of blood and tissue cholesterol levels.*
Further, bacterial digestion of pectic substances in the color results in acidic end products which can retard the growth of many intestinal pathogens. Chloroplex also acts as a natural deodorant, of which it is most commonly used.*
